Nineteen and Twenty-one
(Josh Campbell-Brian Weber - 4/03)

Nineteen and twenty-one
They were so young
But he knew she was the one
So they held each other close
And then he knelt and spoke
She would be the one

And she smiled as she walked down the aisle
To where he nervously stood
She said hi with a gleam in her eye
And then her hand he took
The preacher spoke they both took an oath
That they would be forever one
As they embraced he held her face
A new life had begun…

Time it presses on
Twenty-nine and thirty-one
They were still as one
They faced their share of fears
Endured the angry tears
Their love grew through the years

There were times you would look in their eyes
And swear the love was dead and gone
Then it would rise like the ocean's tide
And they would carry on
Wasn't she the theme of his dreams
All that he was living for
So he knew their love would be true
For whatever life had in store…

Just another day
When a man called to say
Get down here right away
Something isn't right
Someone ran a light
Looks like it's your wife

So he sped to her hospital bed
She couldn't know he was there
They said we'll wait and if she awakes
We'll take things from there
He held her hand and thought of their plans
All the times they had shared
He just choked on the words that he spoke
As he told her how he cared
He tried to sleep she awoke with a scream
There were words she couldn't say
She said goodbye with that gleam in her eye…
And then she slipped away…

notes: OK the story in this song is really sad and some people don't like it because of that. But first of all it is not a true story and second the whole point of the song is to make you feel sad... When Josh C came up with this floating emotional riff it sounded sad to me... and as the song developed it became this very tragic story of a normal everyday couple just living their lives... better and for worse... and having it all taken away in the blink of an eye. What I take away from this song is it makes me appreciate what I have... here and now... and not to take the relationships I have for granted. --Brian Weber
